UNI-CITY Commercial Development Precinct

Lae, Papua New Guinea

Client | The University of Technology Papua Guinea

The University of Technology is the second largest University in Papua New Guinea and the only technological university in the South Pacific, outside of Australia and New Zealand. The Unitech Campus Master Plan by Atlas Urban presents a set of ‘high level’ concept designs for the site and identifies a new commercial precinct, UNI-CITY.

Atlas Urban worked closely with the Vice Chancellor's Office to develop the Commercial Precinct Plan which capitalises on the strategic location of the Site, its relationship to Unitech and the opportunities to integrate with the broader environment through a range of commercial and complementary activities. This plan is explained through the Commercial Precinct Development Guidelines Document. These documents present the overarching structure and function so that individual proposals can be assessed for their role in delivering the overall vision. The guidelines help to establish the quality benchmark, detailing guidelines such as Land Use, Building Height, and Street Alignments and Setbacks.

When completed UNI-CITY will be an icon of the region featuring a market and supermarket; community, health and civic facilities; browsing fashion and lifestyle shops; and accessing PMVs.  All of these will be within easy walking distance of each other and car parking facilities, and the University Core.
