69 Christie Street, St Leonards | Public Domain Plan

New South Wales

Client | Australian Medical Association & Owners Corporation

Site Area | 2,293m²

St Leonards is transforming. The site lies between the St Leonards Train Station and the prospective new Crows Nest Metro Station. Currently the national headquarters of the Australian Medical Association. A Public Domain Plan strategy was prepared to accompany a rezoning and redevelopment proposal.

A new through site link, Nicholson Lane, is proposed along the northern boundary of 69 Christie Street. This will allow public access, linking the Pacific Highway, Friedlander Place, Christie Lane and the new civic plaza opposite the St Leonards train station.  Nicholson Lane is proposed as a shared zone, with vehicle drop off for the Medi hotel and commercial suites, entering from Christie Street and exiting onto Nicholson Street. 500 Pacific Highway carpark entry/ exit shares this same access point off Nicholson Street.

A terraced landscaped plaza to Friedlander Place provides a good visual connection and walking experience from the Pacific Highway to Nicholson Lane and Nicholson Street. A glazed public lift is incorporated into the Nicholson Street frontage to provide equitable access to all 3 levels. The 69 Christie Street carpark and loading access is off Nicholson Street, away from both the Christie Street corner and Friedlander Place, improving pedestrian and vehicle visibility.
