Located in Lae, capital of the Morobe Province, Angau Hospital is nominally the Level 2 Regional Referral Hospital for the Momase Region. Its local provincial catchment population is estimated to be 620,000 and its potential Regional catchment population is 1.7 million. Lae, the capital of the Morobe Province and often referred to as the ‘Industrial Capital of PNG’, is a rapidly growing industrial and commercial centre since it is the shipping port from which most of the Nation’s exports and imports are handled. Lae is PNG’s second largest city.
ANGAU Memorial General Hospital has a proud tradition and a well established reputation as an innovative Public Hospital providing quality healthcare to the people of Lae and beyond. In recent years that reputation has been under threat due to the rapidly deteriorating condition of infrastructure, staff shortages and the collapse of the National Cancer Service. The remaining facilities have been overwhelmed by increasing demand for healthcare as the population grows and the Rural Health Services continue to struggle for resources and public acceptability.
The Angau Master Plan provides guidance on;
- the required location of the proposed facilities within the Campus,
- the capacity requirements of each of the proposed Units, Departments and Wards
- the functional relationships with other Departments for each of the major Services
- the environmental and cultural issues required to be considered during design
