Sacred Heart Cathedral Precinct

Concept Master Plan Options

New South Wales

Client | Diocese of Maitland-Newcastle

The Sacred Heart Cathedral Precinct is a city block at the western gateway to the Newcastle city centre. The Diocese occupies approximately two thirds of the Precinct, which includes the heritage listed Sacred Heart Cathedral, and the administration buildings for the Diocese and Catholic Schools Office.

The team acted on behalf of the Diocese of Maitland-Newcastle to develop concept Master Plan options to accompany a submission to the Draft Newcastle Urban Design Strategy 2012, prepared by the Department of Planning & Infrastructure. The submission outlined an urban design and planning analysis of the Precinct in the context of the Draft Strategy, with a Master Plan option which proposed changes to the floor space ratio and maximum building height.
